LARRY WAYNE SHARPE
Larry Wayne and Mary Annete Hughes Sharpe:
Larry Wayne Sharp and I were married July 12, 1974. We both graduated from CPHS – Larry in 1967 and I in 1969.
We lived on the Sharp land in Prattville (Summit Blvd.) for about eight years. Grandma Carrie Lee lived at the front of the property. Larry and I lived in back of her. Larry’s uncle, John Elvin, lived on one side of us, and Larry’s dad, Jessie Garland, lived on the other side. Larry’s sister, Judith Ann, lived behind their parent’s home. It was during this time that the new Highway 97 was being cut through the back of their property.
I remember one year in particular when we worked and shared a community garden (one of the best I’ve ever seen) using organic methods. I’ll never forget the butter beans that we grew (they were huge and delicious) nor the shallots that were so wonderfully mild. Needless to say, we did a lot of canning that year, all working together.
Grandmas Sharp was my best friend. We canned, cleaned, and quilted together. It was such a pleasant learning experience to live and work with someone as knowledgeable and kind as Grandma Sharp. She was close to eighty years old at the time.
It was in Sharpville (as we sometimes called it) that our two sons were born – Aaron Jesse in 1975, now a freshman at OSU, and Tymon Andrew in 1977, a junior at Mannford High School. Larry and I moved to our land southwest of Mannford in 1983, right before out daughter Lydia Ann, was born. This is where we reside today. Lydia is in the fifth grade at Mannford Elementary.
After Lydia started school, I went back to college and I am now office manager of FHC, Inc., a Tulsa-based engineering firm.
Larry has worked in carpentry all of our married lives and now an installer of Blockbuster Video and Music stores worldwide. He travels the nation and occasionally gets to go overseas. In the past few years, he has been to Italy, Spain, England, and Puerto Rico.
The Sharps are very personable people and fun to be around. It’s always a pleasure to visit them. I feel fortunate to be part of this wonderful family.
