John Byron Powers was born February 13, 1938, in Tulsa, OK. He passed away January 23, 2015, in Mansfield, WA at the age of 76. He had resided in Mansfield for 18 years and prior to that had lived in Tulsa, OK for 16 years; Tigard, OR for 13 years; and Pacific City, OR for 19 years. He served in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Mechanic and MP from 1954 to 1964 and was stationed in Oak Harbor, WA, California, Oklahoma, Texas, and Hawaii. While actively serving in the Navy, John became a Santa Clara County Sheriff. He was a mechanic and fabricator and worked in construction as well. John worked many jobs that took him all over the world. His favorite jobs were in Alaska. He was a member of the Elks, American Legion and Lions Clubs, and his favorite hobbies included fishing, hunting, barbecuing, and spending time with family and friends. John married Anna May Evans on December 5, 1955.
He is survived by his wife, Anna May Powers; daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Don Randall; son and daughter-in-law, John and Ginny Powers; daughter and son-in-law, Rose and Tracy Smart; daughter and son-in-law, Ida and John Monroe; daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Mike Tupling; and son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Wendy Powers; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren with three more on their way.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2015, at United Protestant Church in Mansfield, WA. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Caleb J. Powers Memorial Scholarship or Mansfield Ambulance.
